Skills

Learn how reusable Skills give Giga task-specific instructions, methods, and supporting context.

A Skill is reusable instructions and supporting context for a specific kind of task.

Skills let you teach Giga how your company wants a task handled once, then reuse that method without explaining it again every time.

What a Skill is good for

Use a Skill when you have a repeatable way of doing a specific task.

Examples include:

  • researching an account
  • screening a candidate
  • writing a customer update
  • reviewing a document against company standards
  • preparing a weekly report
  • following a specific internal process or template

A Skill can hold the instructions, standards, reference context, and supporting files needed for that task.

Skill vs Agent vs Workflow

PrimitiveBest fit
SkillReusable instructions for a specific kind of task
AgentA named reusable AI role with broader identity, context, and access
WorkflowA reusable ordered multi-step process
ChatAd hoc work that does not need a reusable primitive

A Skill answers how should Giga do this kind of task?

An Agent carries the broader role doing the work. A Workflow organizes multiple ordered stages.

Skills can be reused

A well-designed Skill should be useful wherever that task method is needed and permitted.

For example:

The same Skill could also be useful in a normal Chat or another Agent if the live environment makes it available.

What can live inside a Skill

A Skill is stored as a set of files with a required SKILL.md entry point.

That structure can contain:

  • the main task instructions
  • supporting reference material
  • templates
  • examples
  • helper files or scripts when appropriate

The exact files should support the task the Skill teaches.

Keep the Skill focused on the method

Put reusable task guidance in the Skill. Keep broad Agent identity in Agent instructions, and keep project-specific standing background in Track Context Notes.

Creating and editing Skills

The current Giga tools support:

  • creating a Skill
  • reading its full file set
  • updating it
  • deleting it
  • sharing it into Groups
  • removing it from Groups

When editing a Skill, Giga should read the current files first.

Updating the Skill’s file set replaces that complete set, so edits should preserve any files that are still needed.

Skills can be private or shared

A Skill can remain owner-only or be shared into one or more Groups.

Users can see Skills they own plus Skills shared into Groups they belong to.

This gives teams a way to reuse the same method without copying the instructions into every Agent or Chat.

Learn about Sharing Skills →

Ownership matters

The current Skill model distinguishes between owning a Skill and having access to a shared Skill.

The owner can manage the Skill.

A teammate may be able to use a Skill shared into their Group without owning the underlying Skill itself.

The live Skill and Group state determine the exact access available in a session.

A simple example

Imagine your Sales team has a standard way to research target accounts.

Instead of placing that entire method inside every Agent, you create an Account Research Skill.

It might contain:

  • which sources to check
  • what evidence to prioritize
  • the required output structure
  • company-specific qualification criteria
  • examples of strong research summaries

That Skill can then be reused wherever the method is relevant and available.
